The New Zones Being Added in Cataclysm
There are a significant number of changes coming to Azeroth with the launch of Cataclysm next year. One of the biggest changes is the addition of new zones to the classic areas of the game that we’ve all known for so long. To start with, you’ll be able to fly in Azeroth for the first time – something that players have long pined to do. Second off, the old zones are being revamped completely, with new ones tossed in between them. Here is a rundown of the new stuff we’ve learned about thus far:
Gilneas
Gilneas is the starting area for the Worgen, the gated off city where the Worgen have been cursed and are now free to roam and join forces with the Alliance. This zone will be a starting zone, with some heavy Gothic overtones.
The Lost Isles
While there was a lot of rumbling that the Goblins would start out in Azshara, the truth is that they will be marooned on the Lost Isles, after having left their original homes out in the ocean. This zone is going to be very tropical in application with beaches and lots of color as the Goblins start out before heading off to Azshara for mid-leveling.
Deepholm
Deepholm is the location through which Deathwing broke into Azeroth to cause the Cataclysm, creating all the major changes we’re going to uncover. Entirely underground, this zone promises to be the largest zone in the game when it is released.
Uldum
This is the Titan location that can only be reached through the gates that everyone has seen in Tanaris for years now and can just now, for the first time gain access through. This zone will largely be inspired by Egyptian art and style.
Mount Hyjal
This is a location that has been hinted at a few times in the past with the Caverns of Time instance and the Archimonde fight in Warcraft III. However, it will be fully realized for the first time in Cataclysm.
The Sunken City of Vash’jir
This underwater city is named after Illidan’s Naga right hand man and is located where the Maelstrom once was in the middle of the ocean. It will be completely underwater and promises to bring changes to underwater action and fighting.
Twilight Highlands
The Twilight Highlands will also include Grim Batol. Located here as well are the Elemental Planes where the Titans placed the Elementals to keep them from ruining Azeroth.
